Choices

In collaboration with Artswork and the Hampshire and I.O.W Violence Reduction Unit, BearFace Theatre has been commissioned to deliver an innovative project called ‘Choices’ which is currently being rolled out across Hampshire, I.O.W, Southampton and Portsmouth until Summer 2025.

The first workshop features a short animation that was co-created with young offenders from HMP Winchester, and it introduces two main characters called Buddy and Jo. Each pupil participates in two creative workshops involving games, discussions and forum theatre techniques to support them, their peers and their teachers to explore some of the challenges that the characters are facing.

The characters Buddy and Jo have some choices to make about the risky and challenging situations that they are experiencing. The workshops provide a safe space to explore the characters, how they might be feeling, what options they have and who might be able to support them.

The overarching aim of this project is to empower the pupils to make healthy choices with their friends as they grow up and this delivery sits within a package of support and learning for schools and staff.
